Third Star: Alexei Emelin
The Emelin of old showed up at the Bell Centre last night and made life extremely difficult for the Chicago Blackhawks. Emelin was given the difficult assignment of shutting down Patrick Kane, the NHLs second leading scorer. Emelin caught Kane along the board early in the game, and threw one of his trademark devastating hits.
Kane didn’t exactly run away with his tail between his legs but for one of the most noticeable players in the world, he was extremely quiet last night. Most of the credit for keeping Kane quiet goes to Emelin.
Emelin also factored in to the Habs offense last night, assisting on the opening goal by his D partner, Markov.
Habs fans came to expect this kind of a game from Emelin last year before his knee injury that required season ending surgery. That also led to him starting this season late, and although he played well for a short while, Emelin really struggled recently.
It was a huge breath of fresh air to see Emelin having an enormous impact on a game once again, and hopefully this Third Star type of performance leads to many more great nights in the near future.
