Hockey has officially returned to Montreal for the 2013-14 season, as the Canadiens rookie camp gets underway this morning in Brossard. The camp will be attended by 40 young NHL hopefuls, including recent first round picks Nathan Beaulieu, Jarred Tinordi and Michael McCarron.
Today, the players will mostly be subjected to off ice physical and fitness testing. They will take to the ice for practice, and will take part in three scrimmages, before the camp wraps up on Monday. Most of the players who have been invited to the camp will be ticketed back to their respective Junior team, or to the Hamilton Bulldogs. However, this provides an excellent chance to show the Canadiens brass, who improved over the summer, and who deserves an invite to the Canadiens main training camp.
The rookie camp ends on the 9th, and the Montreal Canadiens main training camp begins just two days later, on Wednesday, September 11th. That camp runs until the 30th, and includes seven preseason games. The Canadiens exhibition schedule begins on Sunday, September 15th against the Buffalo Sabres, and wraps up on the 26th, when they host the Ottawa Senators.
The regular season then begins on October 1st, as the Canadiens host the Toronto Maple Leafs to begin the 2013-14 season.
