Ryan White Agrees To One Year Deal With Montreal Canadiens

The Montreal Canadiens have avoided arbitration and signed forward Ryan White to a one year extension. White will earn $700,000 dollars next season.

The tough, gritty forward suited up for 26 games with Montreal last season, finding himself in the press box on occasion due to undisciplined play.

Scoring a single point in 26 games, White knows he must play a tough, in your face style, but crossed the line a few times, and took penalties that hurt the team.

The one year extension is well deserved, as White is a speedy player, who can play center or wing, is not afraid to drop the gloves, and brings a rugged style to the fourth line, that is much needed on the Canadiens roster. If White can tame his play slightly, and avoid taking penalties that are detrimental to the team, he can be an excellent contributor on the penalty kill, and is a right handed shot that won 54.5 percent of his draws.

White now has one year to prove he can stay on the right side of Coach Michel Therrien’s disciplinary line, and be a good depth option for the Canadiens down the road.

Let’s face it though, the worst thing he has ever done was pound on Steve Ott for a while at the wrong time. Can we really hold that against him?
