Sabres comeback to stun Montreal

Montreal gave up 7 Power Plays last night and yet still had the game in hand it seemed leading 4-2 about midway through 3rd. However with 12 to go Thomas Vanek punched one home and then poked another home with just :02 left on the clock to send the game into OT where the Sabres would take it in overtime as Ryan Miller would shut the door on Gionta. Here is my thoughts on the game…

  • Montreal once again learned they have to score more goals than you can count on one finger whenever Budaj is in net. He just does poorly at covering the puck up which is why he gave up those two in the 3rd. Also I want to see him make a few nice saves, NHL goalies should be able to make a few nice ones a game and he seems to lack the ability to
  • The Canadiens were unstoppable from outside of the net, just were absolutely sniping from outside scoring all four goals from away from the goal
  • Vanek proved why he’s probably MVP through the first month of hockey, 10 goals and 11 assists through 10 games is crazy
  • PK got his second goal of the season, he’s seeming to do a better job as far as shot selection compared to last season where he shot everything  he could and shot only 2%
  • Bourque was peppering the net all night with 7 shots, should have definitely connected on two of those however he made up for it with 2 assists
