Continuing on from my efforts yesterday to look at what we can do with KHL statistics, I`ve taken a gander to see what can be done for the next best European pro-league, the Swedish Eliteserin.
Bar none, the SEL has the best stats package of the entire pro hockey universe besides the NHL. They have everything the KHL does, plus a break down of the goals for and against that go into a player`s plus minus. For our purposes this means we can put together the rate stats for shots, shot attempts, goals, points, team goals for and team goals against. Unfortuantely the +/- is done by the standard silly method of not counting PP goals for but PP goals against and counting SH goals for which makes it a misleading measurement of who is controlling the balance of play.
Here is the current database for SEL forwards, including the 159 that have played over an hour of hockey as of October 22, ranked by points per minute.

Notes:
-Bud Holloway is a former Kings prospect (2006 draft) that after two strong scoring AHL campaigns without promotion to the big leagues and has been killing it in the Eliteserin with 70 points in 70 games.
-Alex Steen and Matt Duchene are the only ones I`d call current high impact NHLers that have joined the SEL and both are suitably dominating. Stalberg is more of a supporting player in the NHL but is also doing extraordinarily well. It doesn`t appear that hard for a good NHL player to be a top forward in the top Swedish league, which should surprise no one about a league about on par with the AHL.
-Elias Lindholm is a 2013 draft eligible player who is playing at a top line level in a good men`s league. Unless he collapses he should go high in the next draft. The last big time forward to come out of the SEL young was Backstrom who had 26 points in 46 games. Lindholm looks like he could give him a run for his money with 10 in 15 games.
- Relative scoring rates are a lot more tame in the SEL that the KHL this year. This could change if the the lockout is on-going and the SEL opens up fully the locked out NHLers instead of going through a legal battle over them.
- Habs prospect Collberg looks great on shot rates, in the upper third in the league and is about average on points per hour despite having only two assists. He looks like he`s accomplishing things in his limited ice-time.
-Nicklas Jensen looks like he went on a run on shooting percentage to start, sorry `Nucks fans, I don`t think he`s as dominant as 6 goals in 13 games indicates.
Tommorow I`ll extend this piece with a look at the stats for the defensemen in the Eliteserin.
