According to Marc Spector of Sportsnet, the Edmonton Oilers have decided that they will be keeping the 1st overall draft pick the won in the entry draft lottery.
The asking price for Montreal to move up to take the top pick is reportedly to necessarily include star defenseman PK Subban.
PK Subban is currently an all situations (Power Play, Penalty Kill and Even Strength) stud number one defenseman at the relatively young age of 22 with 4 cost controlled RFA years remaining. Trading him for the chance to draft Nail Yakupoc, an unproven prospect at a much lower impact position (winger) should be a complete non-starter for the Habs organization. Which apparently it is. This is doubly so when it sounds like the 3rd overall pick and chance to get almost as good a forward prospect as Yakupov must also be in the picture.
The Toronto Maple Leafs apparently also have declined to pay the somewhat less insane price of promising young defenseman Jake Gardiner and the 5th overall pick for the top draft slot.
