5. Game #1, October 6th, 2011 (Toronto Maple Leafs.)-October 6th. The day every hockey fan is looking for: the start of the NHL season. We all feel the long withdrawl from not being able to watch grown men beat each other up and shooting around a round piece of rubber. What better way to start the season then by facing one of Montreal’s biggest rivals? Well…. it’s not Boston….but it’s still big. Toronto always seems to get the better of Montreal in the first game of the season, but as we all know, Toronto can’t do squat after having a strong start. There are 82 games in the season, so It doesn’t matter what happens right at the beginning, but it gives our good friends in Blue and White a chance to talk about their Stanley Cup parade that we all know won’t happen unless they get delegated to Timbits. It’s also the start day for season 3 of my hockey podcast, Syko’s Hockey Buzz.
4. Game #2, October 9th, 2011 (Winnipeg Jets)- This is the game Canada is waiting for. The Winnipeg Jets return to the NHL, and who better to face then the best team in the Country (and world)? This will be the first NHL game played at the new MTC arena in Winnipeg, and the crowd will be extremley stoked. So, time to storm on their parade. They waited over 15 years for a team, and now they finally get it. But that’s no excuse for letting them win. Winnipeg isn’t even a strong team in the first place, so Montreal should have an OK time defeating them, considering Atlanta is always near the bottom in the NHL standings. Can we be the first team to defeat the revived Winnipeg Jets? The answer is yes.
3. Game #10, October 27th, 2011 (Boston Bruins)- This will be an emotional one for us Habs fans. Max Pacioretty is expected to back by the start of the season, and this will be his first time against Zdeno Chara and the Bruins. If he still has his brain after the hit he took, he would be smart enough to know that it’s not a good idea to go after the 6’9 beast. The 2011 round one playoff series loss is still fresh in the minds of the Canadiens. They will do everything to prevent that this year, but the Bruins have almost an identical team as last year. I would even go as far as saying that the Bruins are the favorites to win the cup for the second straight year. Montreal will have a tough task beating Tim Thomas, but if they don’t win, they have a game 2 days later against the Bruins, this time in Montreal. The crowd will go nuts.
2.Game #69, March 10th, 2011 (Vancouver Canucks)- If Montreal is still serious about a playoff run, this is around the time Montreal needs to step it up and turn the jets on. The last few seasons have been decided in the last couple games, and with 13 games to go, this gives them a good period of time to get a move on and make that last push for a good posiston. But beating Vancouver is no easy task. The team made the finals last season, but came up short in game 7. Luongo is one of the best goalies, no doubt about it, but Carey Price is just as talented.
1. Game #82, April 7th, 2012 (Toronto Maple Leafs)- No explanation needed, Just win.
