GAME SUMMARY: CANADIENS 0 – BRUINS TOUCHDOWN!!!!

We expected more fireworks in tonight’s tilt with the Big Bad Boston Bruins. Not of the physical variety, but where it counts, on the scoreboard. What we got was a dud. A lack-luster performance for the ages.

Just over a minute into the game, Johnny Boychuk scored only his second goal of the season assisted by Zdeno Chara and David Krejci.

As the Bruins peppered Carey Price, Colin Campbell’s son Gregory scored at the 13:43 mark of the period. Zdeno Chara again got a helper on Campbell’s goal, as well as Johnny Boychuk.

Then, after returning Canadiens’ forward Tomas Plekanec took a double minor for high sticking the Bruins’ Nathan Horton, Horton scored a power play goal at the 17:28, with assists going to Milan Lucic and David Krejci, his second of the night.

The second period produced no scoring, if only because of Carey Price, stopped 26 of 29 shots he faced to this point in the game.

The final stanza produced the proverbial nail in the coffin of “Les Glorieux”, as at 4:03 of the third period, Nathan Horton scored his second marker of the night, on an absolutely beautiful saucer pass from David Krejci. It was a thing of beauty.

Andy McQuaid and former Leaf Tomas Kaberle scoring at 4:29 and 11:27 respectively as well. (I’m not going to post video of every goal. That would be cruel.) Carey Price was replaced by Alex Auld after the McQuaid goal. But the most embarrassing moment of the game, in my view, came at 13:35, when Gregory Campbell scored while the Canadiens were on a five-on-three power play.

The Bruins also came within a split second of adding an eighth goal on the night, but the final siren went off just before the puck passed the goal line.

GAME POINTS:

  • Scott Gomez showed a little heart tonight, when he continued playing after a head on collision with Boston’s Brad Marchand left him with a bloody and broken nose.
  • The insertion of Plekanec, Darche, Halpern and Sopel did nothing to help the Habs. Their rust was apparent all night long.
  • Speaking of Darche, you have to give him props for hitting Chara every chance he got. Not hat Chara felt it, but he tried.
  • Carer Price allowed 5 goals on 33 shots. Now if only he could score.
  • Zdeno Chara, Milan Lucic and David Krejci all finished with 3 points on the night.
  • Nathan Horton and Gregory Campbell scored two goals each.
